Year 6 Autumn Term

Mathematics

In maths year 6 will be developing their understanding of place  value, looking at numbers up to 10,000,000; formal methods of addition, subtraction, multiplication and the bus stop method for division;fractions and application of. skills to problem solving.

English

In English year 6 have been reading the War Horse, a Tale of a young colt who becomes a war horse and the journey he takes. The children will be rewriting the story in part from different character perspectives. We will also wrte diary entries and letters. This term is about language development and using a range of punctuation.

Science

Year 6 are exploring the circulatory system and will be learning about the heart and lungs. Please find two helpful diagrams to help you learn these two key parts of the circulatory system attatched in the files.

 

RE

Year 6 are studying journeys.

Topic

In topic the children are exploring WW1. Learning the key dates and also the key figures. We will be learning about trench warfare and the war effort at home. We will also look at the effects of propaganda and create our own persuasive posters using multimedia. 

Computing

In computing the children will be creating their own multimedia video clip as part of Operation Scrambler Bike in cooperation with the police. They will be using Powerpoint and publisher to showcase presentations. 

Art

The children will be creating their own Andy Warhol inspired art work.

Design and Tehnology

The children will be making bags using their sewing skills to create different stitch types.

P.E.

The children will be developing their skills in gymnastics, swimming and tag rugby, as well as increasing their knowledge and understanding of the relationship between the body and exercise to improve fitness levels. Including keeping healthy sessions with the school nurse.
