Summer Term

Year 2

Welcome back for our final term in Year 2!

This term our topic is called Why do we like to be beside the seaside?

We will begin our term by learning all about local seaside locations and costal features. We will look at mapss to make deductions and compare features of seaside towns and our own locality. We will use aerial photographs to help us describe key physical features and use this to plan and make our own maps and key.

We will continue to work hard on our writing this term and develop those skills we have learned during Autumn and Spring term. We will continue to develop our handwriting and make sure we take pride in our presentation in all of our books. We will focus on developing and building our sentences using a variety of conjunctions to add detail as well as using the wider range of punctuation accurately. We will continue our daily Read, Write, Inc lessons to help us improve our reading and our writing.

In Science we will be learning about plants. Through investigations and experimentation we will observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants. We will investivate how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy.

This term in RE we will be learning about ascension and pentecost. We will be listening to and being able to retell the stories of the events of the ascention and pentecost. We will begin to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of these two very significant events and give the children an opportunity to begin to explore the concept of God as three in one. We will explore the symbolism and power of the Holy Spirit and emphasise the importance of these events in the life of Jesus and the Church, then and now.
