Curriculum

Welcome to year 2!

This term our topic is called Health on Fire!:

We will begin our term by learning all about humans and other living things. We will study the human lifecycle and what all living things need to keep healthy. We will learn all about where our food comes from and what types of food we need to have a healthy balanced diet.

We will have opportunities to use atlases and maps to learn about where in the world our food is grown or produced, and why it is grown in those countries.

We will be working very hard on our writing this term. We must make sure we are thinking carefully about our spellings and using Fred fingers to help us sound out words. We must use the correct letter formation and make sure our handwriting is neatly presented and can be read by anyone who would like to read our wonderful work. As well as having daily Read, Write, Inc lessons to help us improve our reading and our writing, we will be putting into practise our new writing skills during our Big Write sessions. We will write in a variety of genres including letters, information texts, instructions, diaries and stories.

The second half of our term will be based on The Great Fire of London. We will learn about how life was different in the past and learn how to order events on a timeline. We will learn about significant people of the time such as Samuel Pepys and Sir Christopher Wren. We will discover how this event in Britains past has led to the development of firefighting.

This term in RE we will be learning about Harvest festival and how people celebrate around the world. We will also be learning about the Bible, the books within and the stories that have been shared from the Bible for hundreds of years. We will then begin our Chrismas topic and follow Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem as we aproach Chrsitmas.

There is so much to look forward to this half term!
