Happy New Year!

This term our topic is called The Sky’s the Limit!:

We will begin our term by learning all about the voyages and expeditions of Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong. We will create chronological timelines of these significant people’s lives and voyages and compare the conditions experienced for different explorers.

We will have opportunities to use atlases and maps to learn the names of the 5 oceans of the world and locate them on a map. We will have opportunities to use simple compass directions and locational language.

We will continue to work hard on our writing this term and develop those skills we have learned during Autumn term. We will continue to develop our handwriting and make sure we take pride in our presentation in all of our books. We will focus on developing and building our sentences using a variety of conjunctions to add detail as well as using the wider range of punctuation accurately. We will continue our daily Read, Write, Inc lessons to help us improve our reading and our writing.

In Science we will be learning about materials and their properties. Through investigations and experimentation we will decide on which materials will make the best ship and sail. We will investivate how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed and discovering which materials float or sink.

This term in RE we will be enjoying the stories of Jesus’ miracles and becoming more aware of how extroadinary Jesus was and that he welcomed everyone as a freind. In the lead up to Easter we will be learning about the symbols associated with the Easter story and understanding the importance of the concept of salvation.

There is so much to look forward to this half term!
