Welcome to year 2!

This term our topic is called Why do we like to be beside the Seaside?:

English - In English we will read stories by Anthony Browne - focussing on The Tunnel to help inspire our own adventure stories. We will read the Lighthouse Keeper Stories by David and Rhonda Armitage and develop our own stories about  Mr Grinling the unlucky lighthouse keeper. We will use instructions for planting and making sunflowers and write our own for others to follow.

We will read poems and stories associated with Vincent Van Gogh too!

Science - In Science our topic is plants. We will learn to recognise and name common trees and plants and learn about different plant parts and their functions.  We will continue to set up our own investigations and develop lots of scientific enquiry skills - finding out about conditions for growth and where plants grow well.

We will also learn about animals and their habitats.

Geogrpahy  - In geography we will look at the features of our local area and compare them to a seaside town.  We will visit Southport to become tourists and experience some of the attractions of a seaside town. We will consolidate the countries and capital cities of the UK and look at the seas that surround it. We will compare Southport to a Non- European seaside resort.

R.E - In R.E. we will learn about Ascension and Pentecost and learn about The Church.

Maths- In maths the children will continue practise their number bonds to 20 and do lots of counting up and back in different sized steps, we will also continue to practise times tables and division facts. We will learn how to read a scale accurately and develop our understanding of measure.
