Summer Term

Welcome to our final term in year 1! I can't believe how quick the time has gone!

This term our topic is called 'African adventure'.

We will be reading the story 'Lila and the secret of rain' by David Conway and Jude Daly and will complete lots of work around it.

What do you think the story is about based on the front cover?

We will be researching the continent of Africa and comparing it to the United Kingdom. We will also learn about some of the famous people who were born in Africa.

In Science we will continue to learn about plants, flowers and trees. We will learn about the different parts of plants and trees and what important jobs each part has to help it to grow.

We will then move on to learning how to classify animals based on their characterstics. We will alos explore the diets of different animals using the terms 'herbrivore', 'carnivore' and 'omnivore'.

We are having a big focus on our writing this term to help us get ready for Year 2. We must make sure we are thinking carefully about our spellings and using Fred fingers to help us sound out words. It is also important that we use our neatest handwriting in all our work and take pride in our presentation.

We have a busy term ahead, Year One. Are you up for the challenge?
