Curriculum

The Foundation Stage Curriculum is child centred and recognises play, talk, observation and exploration as the principal means of learning.

In addition to activities which start from the children's interests, the Foundation Stage Team plans a series of topics which are designed to promote learning across the curriculum.

Summer Term

Here are some of the activities that we will be doing in Reception as part of this Topic:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
In this area, we will be talking all about the changes in our environment as Summer is approaching. We will be exploring the indoor and outdoor environment and continue to engage in the weekly learning challenges set.

Physical Development
In this area, we will be using our fine and gross motor skills. We will take part in painting, drawing and other mark making activities. When playing outdoors and in P.E., we will be participating in team building games and exploring the way we move our bodies in gymnastics.

Communication and Language
In this area, we will be joining in with lots of speaking and listening activities, such as sharing our weekend news in circle time. We will also talk about our school week, what we have enjoyed and what we would like to learn about next week.

Literacy
In this area, we will be looking at lots of different books, both fact and fiction, especially finding information about animals great and small. We will have shared story times at the end of the day and be able to choose from a selection of books in our reading area, to look at independently.

Mathematics
In this area, we will be practising our counting and recognising numbers to 20 and beyond. We will apply our number knowledge to lots of problem solving activities. In Shape, Space and Measure we will look at 2d and 3d shape and sorting objects by length.

Understanding the World
In this area, we will be looking at our environment and how it is changing as we move into Summer. We will be investigating different mini beasts in the garden.

Expressive Art and Design
In this area, we will be singing some of our favourite nursery rhymes as well as beginning to learn some new ones. We will look at different instruments and the sounds that they make. We will also be creating models, pictures and paintings, exploring mixing colours and using different materials.
